Drenched in fog most of the year, this lighthouse is one of the foggiest in the country, and is a great whale-watching spot in the fall and spring.

I would highly recommend that you rent a vehicle because there are great places to visit along the coast. The Marin headlands, north of the Golden Gate Bridge, over look San Francisco and the bay. Pebble beach and Bixsby bridge to the South are great tourist sites. Be sure to check the weather and pack appropriately. The coastal areas do experience heavy wind at times.
I read somewhere that it is an hour drive from the entrance of the park to the lighthouse? Is that accurate?
A:
It may be less than an hour, but a beautiful drive. The day we were there it was very foggy at the light, but we waited for 30 minutes and it cleared a bit.
