Yes, there were kids on the trip too - but I think for scuba diving there was a minimum age of 12 years old (if I remember right) they don't have to be certified. you can do a quick introduction on the boat with them and than they guide you all through the drills in the water followed by a short dive with the guides. in case your kids don't like it no big deal at all - they can go right back onto the boat and hang out there or go snorkeling.
