The Madras High Court criticized Chennai Police Commissioner A Arun for his investigation of the Anna University sexual assault case. An all-women Special Investigation Team was formed, and the court ordered ₹25 lakh compensation for the victim and free education support from Anna University.

A second-year student of Anna University was allegedly sexually assaulted by the accused on the university campus on December 23. The accused, 37-year-old Gnanasekharan, who works as a food vendor, was arrested by police from Kotturpuram.
