Three months after Chico’s 156-year-old Bidwell Mansion was deliberately set ablaze, 30-year-old Kevin Andrew Carlson was sentenced Wednesday to the maximum 11 years in state prison for destroying the historic landmark.

Carlson, 30, was sentenced Wednesday to 11 years in state prison — the maximum penalty for felony arson — after admitting to setting fire to Bidwell Mansion, an act that stunned the city and sent investigators on a weeks-long hunt for the culprit.

Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said that Kevin Carlson got six years for the arson and an additional five years for using an accelerant in the arson fire. Carlson
