Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said Tuesday that he had taken legal action against a Mesa County sheriff’s deputy over an alleged violation of state laws prohibiting coordination between local police and federal immigration agents.

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser is suing a sheriff's deputy who Weiser says told ICE officials in an encrypted Signal chat to a woman who was allegedly in the U.S. on an expired visa, in violation of state law.

Atty. Gen. Phil Weiser also disclosed that his office is investigating whether other law enforcement officers on a regional drug task force the deputy worked on have been sharing information to help federal agents make immigration arrests.
