SpaceX conducted its 500th Falcon 9 rocket launch early this morning (July 2) and broke its own reuse record in the process. The milestone mission lifted off with 27 Starlink satellites at 2:28 a.m. EDT (0628 GMT) today from Space Launch Complex 40 at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
SpaceX's reusable Falcon 9 rocket, set to launch a crew for the first civilian space walk, has been grounded by the FAA after it fell over and exploded on its return from another mission.
The commercial spaceflight company is headquartered at Starbase in South Texas near the U.S.-Mexico border. The site, which is where SpaceX has been conducting routine flight tests of its 400-foot megarocket known as Starship, was recently voted by residents to become its own city.
