Fire investigators are now looking into what caused the fire on Monday night, and the Union Fire District's chief has said the building may be a total loss.

According to USA Today's 2025 Restaurants of the Year list, the restaurant is one of the top 44 places to eat in America.

Matunuck Oyster Bar opened in 2009 as an extension of a local oyster farming business. A two-alarm fire at Matunuck Oyster Bar in South Kingstown early in the morning on May 20 caused serious damage to the iconic restaurant and firefighters say the restaurant will likely be a total loss.
