A new fire in Rio Blanco County near its border with Routt County is burning 300 acres near Crosho Lake and has prompted campground evacuations and pre-evacuation orders for nearby homes.

One of the fires burning now more than 100,000 acres in Rio Blanco County in northwest Colorado continues to grow during ongoing “near-critical fire weather” conditions.

Five active wildfires — the Lee, Elk, Oak, Stoner Mesa and Crosho fires — have charred more than 143,000 acres, or 222 square miles, on the Western Slope in recent days.

The Lee Fire near Meeker, now the fifth largest fire in Colorado's history, is just one four major fires in western Colorado threatening homes and other structures as firefighters struggle to get containment.

RIO BLANCO COUNTY, Colo. — The Lee Fire in Rio Blanco County has grown to the sixth largest in Colorado history, according to the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control. The fire was mapped with infrared technology at more than 106,000 acres as of Sunday.

The Lee Fire burning on Colorado's Western Slope is officially one of the largest that the state has ever seen.

Several fires are burning across western Colorado, with some at historic sizes and other causing evacuations of Western Slope towns.
