Airbus orders software fix after JetBlue altitude drop, bringing holiday flight delays
Two major aviation authorities say a widely used Airbus aircraft requires a rapid software fix after a JetBlue plane experienced a sharp altitude drop linked to corrupted flight-control data.
The European airplane maker said a recent incident had shown that “intense solar radiation may corrupt data critical to the functioning of flight controls.”
American Airlines was among the carriers addressing the order. It’s begun identifying and completing the software update and expects the work on the vast majority of its A320 planes to be completed Friday and Saturday. The fix should take about two hours for many aircraft, American said.
