Family members and advocates have asked Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to intervene in a death penalty case set to move forward in Alabama.

Friends and family of the Detroit man want him to be able to serve a life-in-prison sentence in Michigan instead of being executed in Alabama.

Lawyers are fighting to save a man’s life by calling on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to recall a prisoner who was extradited to Alabama and now faces the death penalty.

Frazier is to be executed at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility, Atmore Alabama, sometime within a 30-hour-period starting at midnight on Thursday, Feb. 6 and ending at 6 a.m. on Feb. 7. Frazier is set to die by inhaling pure nitrogen gas.

Demetrius Frazier was serving a life sentence in Michigan before being transferred to Alabama in 2011. Frazier is scheduled for execution Feb. 6.
