Veteran NBC broadcast journalist Craig Melvin will replace departing TODAY show co-anchor Hoda Kotb in January. “I am beyond excited and grateful,” Melvin said while appearing on the show Thursday (November 14) morning.

The "TODAY" show's producers unveiled its new host to co-anchor alongside Savannah Guthrie after Hoda Kotb's exit.

Hoda Kotb knows whom she wants to replace her on the “Today” show. The morning show host, 60, spoke about her successor in a new interview with E! News. “The person who I want is someone who has beautiful chemistry with Jenna [Bush Hager],” Kotb told the outlet on Oct. 25, referring to her co-anchor on the fourth hour of “Today.”

I am beyond excited and grateful,” Melvin said, thanking “NBC and the folks here who deemed me worthy.” He begins as co-host in January.

Rather than a fixed co-host, Jenna, who replaced Kathie Lee Gifford in 2019, will instead be hosting with a revolving door of hosts. In the past, when either of the hosts have been absent, Justin Sylvester, Michelle Buteau, and Willie Geist have frequently stepped in.

Craig Melvin will keep it in the NBC family when he replaces Hoda Kotb on the “TODAY” show early next year. Kotb, 60, announced on the legacy morning show Thursday that as of Jan. 10, Melvin, 45, will move from co-anchoring the 9 a.m. hour to join Savannah Guthrie in co-anchoring the 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. block.

Craig Melvin was announced as Hoda Kotb’s replacement in the early morning hours on Today, however, things are still up in the air as to who will step in to cohost Today With Hoda & Jenna with Jenna Bush Hager.
