Honda Motor this week said it is moving production of its Civic Hybrid hatchback from Japan to the U.S. The announcement comes amid a barrage of tariffs by the Trump administration, including a 25% levy on imports from Canada and Mexico and 25% auto tariffs.

Honda’s Indiana factory employs roughly 2,700 people and currently handles production of the Civic hatchback and CR-V. It also plans to shift production of the Accord from a site in Marysville, Ohio, to the Indiana site, although it’s unclear if moving Civic Hybrid production from Japan will impact these plans.
