PORTLAND, Maine — Most of the state was engulfed in snow Monday afternoon. It's just a matter of efficiency. Surface temperatures along the coastline have been marginal through the day with the wind off the water. This allows some accumulation but keeps it fairly minimal close to the immediate coast.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) aurora forecast, the northern lights may be viewable in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and even Massachusetts tonight. The northern lights are typically most visible between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. according to NOAA.
