Six people were injured at a Fourth of July fireworks celebration in Alabama when ‘unpermitted fireworks’ malfunctioned on a pontoon boat that had been modified into a fireworks platform on Lake Martin.

Officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said a single vessel-related incident involving unpermitted fireworks occurred at approximately 9:14 p.m. on Friday, July 4, resulting in an explosion that injured six people.

Six people were injured when a pontoon boat that was modified into a fireworks platform malfunctioned at Lake Martin on Friday night, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
