The Helldivers 2 film is one of a number of adaptations announced by Sony at CES, including film productions of Horizon Zero Dawn and Until Dawn, and an anime series based on Ghost of Tsushima — not to mention the release window for The Last of Us Season 2.

Helldivers 2, from developer Arrowhead, is of course heavily inspired by cult classic sci-fi movie Starship Troopers. It sees soldiers of the future struggle to defend a fascist Super Earth regime against alien robots called Automatons and bugs called Terminids all the while preaching "Managed Democracy."

Sony announced this latest round of adaptations at its CES press conference this week. The new movies will be based on Helldivers and Horizon Zero Dawn. The former was a surprise hit last year, while the latter has been one of PlayStation’s most successful new franchises,

Sony had a lot of updates to share at CES 2025, adapting more of its gaming properties to live-action and animation.
