Talos Energy , a mid-sized U.S. oil producer with operations in the Gulf of Mexico, is poised to name veteran Shell executive Paul Goodfellow as its next CEO, two people familiar with the matter said on Sunday.

Two people with knowledge of the matter confirmed on Sunday that Talos Energy is preparing to appoint veteran Shell executive Paul Goodfellow, as its new CEO.

Talos Energy has tapped an executive vice president of the London-based energy giant Shell to be its next chief executive. The energy company said Monday that Paul Goodfellow will take the top role and join its board on March 1.

Goodfellow will succeed Talos' founder and long-time CEO Tim Duncan, who stepped down in August after serving more than 12 years as the U.S. oil and gas firm's top boss. On Feb. 2, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that Talos was likely to appoint Goodfellow as its next CEO.
