Virginia Tech head football coach Brent Pry has completed his defensive coordinator search with the addition of Sam Siefkes. Siefkes has had stops in the football world from Division III, to his latest position as the linebackers coach with the Arizona Cardinals — for the past two seasons.

The Hokies have picked up Arizona Cardinals linebackers coach Sam Siefkes to lead the Tech defense. On Tuesday, head coach Brent Pry talked about his qualifications and the improvements he will bring to the Hokie defense that will elevate its level of play.

Siefkes’ hiring came less than seven weeks after Pry made the first major shakeups on his coaching staff. He fired defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Chris Marve, offensive line coach Ron Crook and strength and conditioning coordinator Dwight Galt IV after the program’s second straight 6-6 regular season.

Siefkes had come to Arizona after two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. He replaces the fired Chris Marve at Virginia Tech.
