Judge Lawrence VanDyke released the video after a California appeals court upheld a ban on high-capacity gun magazines.

An appeals court ruled Thursday that California’s law banning gun magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition can remain in place, a decision that prompted one judge to record an unusual video dissent that shows him loading guns in his chambers.

Judge Lawrence VanDyke of the 9th Circuit said he made the video to convey a “conceptual point” about how guns work. His colleague called it “wildly improper.”
