The Chicago Cubs put on a power display against the host Detroit Tigers on Saturday. Detroit will look to strike back in the rubber match of a three-game series on Sunday afternoon.

Seeing the Tigers at the top of the leaderboard and Comerica Park filled and raucous again warmed Matt Boyd's heart, even from the Cubs' dugout.

DETROIT -- When Chicago Cubs utility man Jon Berti entered Friday’s game as a pinch-runner in the eighth inning, it marked the first time he had stepped on the field at Comerica Park in a game since he was playing for Troy High School nearly two decades ago.

The Cubs set up their roster for this stretch against teams robust with left-handed bats, signing Génesis Cabrera last week after the Mets designated him for assignment. He gave the Cubs a third left-handed option out of the bullpen, joining Caleb Thielbar and Drew Pomeranz, all of whom are throwing well.

The Tigers lead the American League. The Cubs lead the National League. A Friday night and, aside from hazy skies, the weather in Detroit was flawless. And arguably the best pitcher in the world, Detroit ace Tarik Skubal, was taking the bump for Detroit.
