Helldivers 2, from developer Arrowhead, is of course heavily inspired by cult classic sci-fi movie Starship Troopers. It sees soldiers of the future struggle to defend a fascist Super Earth regime against alien robots called Automatons and bugs called Terminids all the while preaching "Managed Democracy."

The Helldivers 2 film is one of a number of adaptations announced by Sony at CES, including film productions of Horizon Zero Dawn and Until Dawn, and an anime series based on Ghost of Tsushima — not to mention the release window for The Last of Us Season 2.

Sony’s CES 2025 press conference delivered some thrilling news for gamers, with the announcement of film adaptations for two popular games: 202024 co-op FPS hit Helldivers 2 and the critically acclaimed 2017 action RPG Horizon Zero Dawn. The Helldivers 2 movie will be developed by Sony Productions in partnership with Sony pictures.
