Family history. A native of Batesville, Ind., Ray Hillenbrand is a descendant of John A. Hillenbrand, an enterprising young man who rescued the Batesville Coffin Company from bankruptcy in 1906.

Casket maker Hillenbrand Inc. has agreed to buy the manufacturer K-Tron International Inc. for about $433 million in cash.
