Borussia Dortmund appointed Croatian Niko Kovac as manager on Thursday after the Bundesliga club sacked Nuri Sahin last week.

Borussia Dortmund are set to appoint Niko Kovac as the club's new head coach.The Bundesliga club sacked Nuri Sahin last week after their Champions League loss at Bologna was a disappointing fourth successive defeat.

Former Bayern Munich boss, Niko Kovac, is the successor to Nuri Sahin. Though he may not have the same connection to BVB as his predecessors Nuri Sahin and Edin Terzic, Niko Kovac is a familiar face in the Bundesliga.

Niko Kovac has been officially introduced as Borussia Dortmund's new head coach. The former Bayern and Wolfsburg coach will take over from Nuri Sahin on a contract that runs until 2026. He will begin work on Sunday, meaning that interim coach Mike Tullberg will get one last game in charge against Heidenheim on Saturday.

Niko Kovac will become new coach at Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, managing director for sport Lars Ricken has confirmed. "Yes, I can confirm it. We have reached an agreement in principle," Ricken told streaming portal DAZN after Dortmund's 3-1 Champions League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk.
