Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) plan to demolish an alleged illegal mosque section in Dharavi has been halted following protests. Congress chief Varsha Gaikwad confirmed the cancellation after discussions with the Chief Minister.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's drive to demolish an alleged illegal portion of a mosque in densely-populated Dharavi in Mumbai has been cancelled for today. The BMC has given eight days to the mosque committee.

A large number of police personnel have been deployed there to prevent any untoward incident in view of the prevailing situation

Tension erupted in Dharavi, Asia's largest slum, as residents protested the BMC's move to demolish an illegal portion of a mosque. After talks, mosque trustees secured a four-to-five-day extension to remove the encroachment.

Mumbai: The Dharavi Police announced on Saturday evening that the situation is under control after a massive protest broke out in response to the proposed demolition of mosques in the area. Approximately 5,000 people gathered outside the Dharavi police station, chanting slogans and pleading for authorities to halt the demolition.
