It ran from Dec. 22, 2018 to Jan. 25, 2019, during the Trump administration. At 34 days, it was the longest government shutdown in history by a significant margin, as most shutdowns in recent decades have lasted two weeks or less.

The House shot down a temporary spending deal that would extend government funding for the next six months, sending lawmakers back to square one with less than two weeks until a scheduled shutdown and lapse in federal funding.

Congress has 12 days left to approve a short-term government funding bill before the shutdown deadline, although leaders in the Republican House and Democratic Senate haven’t felt the need to start negotiations just yet.
