Before playing US Open mixed doubles together, Jess Pegula and Jack Draper had hardly spoken. Yet they pulled off two victories on Tuesday.

Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper will team up for the U.S. Open mixed doubles tournament, after their previous partners withdrew from the revamped event.

But the opening round of matches seemed well-received by the New York crowd. Spectators flocked to the two show courts, Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong, in their droves, and loudly backed home favourites including Venus Williams and Reilly Opelka.
