Minnesota House Republicans leader State Rep. Lisa Demuth has indicated her party will block a DFL representative-elect from being seated in House District 54A until a new election has taken place in the Shakopee district.

A major power dispute has erupted at the Minnesota State Capitol, jeopardizing the start of the legislative session next week.

Minnesota could see one of the most contested starts to a legislative session when state lawmakers meet in St. Paul next Tuesday. The DFL is threatening to skip the start of the session if there’s no power-sharing agreement with Republicans.

Democrats have also voiced concern that Republicans could refuse to seat Rep.-elect Brad Tabke, a Democrat from Shakopee, who won by 14 votes. Those results are facing a legal challenge after Scott County officials said 20 ballots were accidentally discarded.
