Jun 27, 2007 · ArboristSite Lurker. I was thinking about how to calculate the amount of firewood (in cords) in a certain length log. Is the calculation simply; 2) Divide by 128 (cubic feet in a cord). Calculation: 10' x 3.14 x 1 (Radius Squared) = 31.4 cubic feet in this log. 31.4/128 = .24 of a cord.

Mar 21, 2013 · I was thinking that as well, 4 3/4" bore, assuming the first post dimensions were circumference. Also, if the 22.5 is the outer circumference of the cylinder, you need to subtract wall thickness of the cylinder, probably about 1/4 - 1/2" (per side) leaving you with a 6, maybe 6.5" diameter cylinder.

You could make a 4 sided box with screws and no bottom, that measures 200cf and fill it with thrown wood. Remove the sides and you will have a visual of what a cord "pile" looks like.

Aug 28, 2014 · Either 4" or 6" side boards would be fine. Space them out as much as possible to allow airflow. The guy in the thrd picture looks to have about 16-18" spacing and the shed still has plenty of support. Since you are putting green wood in the shed I would go more towards this spacing versus the first two pictures.

So many 30 ton splitters use a 4.5 inch cylinder which at 3000 psi will give you about 23 actual tons for a 30 ton splitter. I run everything thru a 4 way wedge and my pressure only hits 3000 on big white oak crotches.

Aug 20, 2007 · The correct answer is 1536 bf. 1 BF = 12" X 12" X 1" thick. 1 cubic foot = 12 bf. 12 bf X 128 cubic ft = 1536 bf. this assumes that there is NO air in the stack. In other words, a solid piece that is 128 cubic feet. in the real world you wont get this. i think the load that was 1300 bf and cut to 2 1/2 is alot closer. R.
