We noticed that last November, Duke Energy included a ~$6 charge for a streetlight. When we called them, they said that it's for a streetlight on our property. We don't have a streetlight on our property, so the call got escalated to someone else.

Apr 11, 2024 · Here in Duke’s Florida service area, 1 kW DC of solar panels, after considering things like shading, inverter losses, etc, will produce approximately 1548 kWh/Year of energy (source: PVWatts) or an average of 129 kWh/month. At the advertised $0.04/kWh credit rate, Duke is going to credit you 129 x $0.04 = $5.16.

The demand peak argument is currently not relevant, especially as Duke Energy Progress produces about 33% of energy with NG. Fluctuation of consumption during the day is less than that. Hence the solar output currently saves them NG 1:1.

I recently updated my list of electronic devices in the home on the Duke website. This should have made it more clear where energy is being used. I did this just so I could better track my individual energy consumption and lower costs accordingly. How am I supposed to do that if my highest cost comes from “other” energy uses?!

Jun 23, 2023 · All power companies just raised rates. If you haven’t already, you can get your power supplied by another provider for $.06-.08/kWH (instead of Duke’s $.11ish/kWH). It’s still delivered through Duke’s lines but is generated by another company. The process is relatively seamless and you still pay the bill the same way.
Duke Energy price increase, is there anything we can do?
2022 energy prices were an anomaly and with the Fed trying to slow things, prices have no logical reason to be expected to repeat 2022. If Duke really wanted to recoup any money fronted for the input cost spike, they should have to amortize that over a longer time period. Duke ain't going broke here if it takes five years to cover their fuel costs.
Duke Energy no longer charges a fee to pay with a credit card
Aug 8, 2022 · Not sure when they put it in place, but it is working now. Paid my Duke bill today with no additional fee. The first screen indicates "There may be a fee", but once you click through, the fee is $0. If you're like me, the credit card rewards are a nice bonus, and passing along the fees to Duke is <chef's kiss>.
