Portraits in Motion: Gazing out at the viewer with an aloof stare, Julian Opie’s instantly recognisable images of Ruth Smoking encapsulate his brand of pop art rewritten. Visual artist Opie initially takes photographs of his subject matter before digitally manipulating these to construct his images by a process of elimination and distillation – questioning modern life and how we see things.
