The Limpkin was named as such because of the way it walks! According to early European settlers, it looked like it was limpijng, perhaps when being pursued by hunters with dogs. Despite the “limp,” this bird has been known to gallop away at high speed! Its bill has also adapted to be able to eat apple snails, being shaped somewhat like tweezers.
