Castle Pinckney or Fort Pinckney as it was originally named in 1797. Built to defend against the French, and completed in 1804 only to be destroyed by a hurricane the same year. Rebuilt in time for the war of 1812, but saw no action. Briefly re-garrisoned in 1832 during the Nullification federal tariffing crisis.
