On September 21, 1941, Mary planted a shovel to break ground for what would become the Motion Picture Country House and Hospital. (She called it a 'House' instead of 'Home' because actors always consider themselves “between engagements.”) Mary had a long history of using her power & philanthropy to give back to what she called "our own."
